Using your Empower abilities Fire Breath and Upheaval gives your closest Ebon Might target Shifting Sands which scales with your Mastery. This buff is a huge damage and survivability steroid since it provides a good chunk of Versatility.

Excellent
- Augmentation Evoker is known for its powerful buffs with Ebon Might, Prescience, and Shifting Sands along with its immense arsenal of utility like Spatial Paradox, Timelessness and Bestow Weyrnstone.
- Their toolkit includes powerful defensive abilities like Obsidian Scales and Renewing Blaze and most notably Twin Guardian. This enhances their survivability and allows them to stay in the fight longer than most other damage dealers.
- However, like any specialization, Augmentation Evoker has its weaknesses. One very notable drawback is the lack of clarity regarding your performance. For a somewhat accurate verdict regarding your output, you need to utilize websites like WarcraftLogs.

Rotation
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Augmentation Evoker
Tier Set
- (2pc): Every third Prescience last 100% longer.
- (4pc): Casting Prescience makes your next Eruption create secondary explosions and extends Ebon Might by an additional 0.2s for each active Prescience.
Single-Target
Opener Rotation
- Your goal is to have Ebon Might and Prescience on as many optimal targets as possible and then start the uptime battle for Momentum Shift. Below, you see an example of how your opener looks like using the recommended Single-Target talent spec.
- As for who to buff, in most guilds/pugs this ends up being your biggest pumpers.
- There is an alternate opener starting with Ebon Might before using Prescience. The reasoning for this opener is that it allows you to choose 4 targets instead of only 2.
Priority List
This is a general priority you aim to maintain throughout the fight.
- Cast Breath of Eons
- Cast Fire Breath Empower 1
- Cast Upheaval Empower 1
- Cast Eruption with Essence Burst
- Cast Living Flame if Essence Burst stacks = 2 and Essence < 4
- Cast Eruption
- Cast Living Flame or Azure Strike
Deep Dive
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Augmentation Evoker
Rescue usage
- Rescue is a great part of your toolkit as an Evoker. Using it optimally requires fight awareness, especially in raids but can often save your less mobile allies from sticky situations.
- When you don't need Rescue for its movement part, you should be looking to use it for the very potent defensive effect Twin Guardian as often as possible.
Hover usage
- Managing and timing your Hover casts correctly in combat to get more casts in while dealing with mechanics is where you see the biggest difference in your DPS. Optimizing your rotation is not that complex for Augmentation Evoker.
- Starting a cast of a spell such as Eruption at the very end of a Hover buff still lets you finish that specific cast while moving. Keep this in mind to get more benefit from each use of Hover!
- Make sure you are tracking your uptime and charges of Hover on your UI. Get really comfortable with utilizing this ability as it is the most significant unique strength of an Evoker.
Ebon Might Target Priority
With the current tier set, the priority list of Ebon Might does not matter much. However, going into War Within will again be a major optimization for your output. When applying Ebon Might through either Breath of Eons or casting Ebon Might it follows a list as to who it targets.
Priority | Your Ebon Might is | A different Ebon Might is | Your Prescience is |
---|---|---|---|
Any target | Active | - | - |
Any target | Not Active | - | Active |
Closest DPS | Not Active | Not Active | - |
Closest non-DPS | Not Active | Not Active | - |
Closest DPS | Not Active | Active | - |
Closest non-DPS | Not Active | Active | - |
Shifting Sands Target Priority
Shifting Sands is the active part of your Mastery. It applies every time you cast an Empower spell Upheaval and Fire Breath and follows a list as to who it targets.
Priority | Ebon Might is | Shifting Sands is |
---|---|---|
Closest DPS | Active | Not Active |
Closest non-DPS | Active | Not Active |
Closest DPS | Not Active | Not Active |
Closest non-DPS | Not Active | Not Active |
Closest DPS | Not Active | Active |
Maximizing output
In the end, it's all about maximizing the amount of multipliers on each other
Shifting Sands Ebon Might Prescience Fate Mirror Breath of Eons
- Prescience Critical Strike
- Ebon Might Primary Stat
- Shifting Sands Versatility
- Since all of these are stat buffs it might not always be optimal to simply buff the #1 guy on the logs. Demon Hunters for example benefit significantly by Prescience due to how much they want to stack Crit. Prescience is also not affected by Stat Diminishing Returns since it's a % value and not flat stats.
Understanding Mechanics
Rotational min-maxing is just one aspect of mastering a specialization, but there are numerous other key mechanics that influence your performance. Use the following guides to improve them.

Offensive Cooldown Usage
Boss Tips
- Keep it simple, do not attempt to do cross boss/adds buffing between spawns. If you are on add duty buff your assigned targets, same with the boss.
- You can immune Icy Shroud and Frozen Shroud if you use Breath of Eons before the cast finishes.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
Defensive Cooldown Usage
Utility Cooldown Usage
Boss Tips
- You play Clobbering Sweep so you can use Tail Swipe for almost every set of Volatile Current.
- Time Spiral is very important here and some classes rely on it to survive.
- Your offensive cooldowns are most of the time reliant on buff targets timings, but with current kill times simply popping on 2m cooldowns is efficient.
Phase 1
- Call for an external or use one of your defensives if you're directly affected by Static Charge.
- Use Rescue to assist your healers during Hurricane Wing.
Phase 2
- Use Rescue as a defensive cooldown and help your Priests on Tempest Wing.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
Boss Tips
- Your offensive cooldowns are most of the time reliant on the buff target's timings. But with current kill times simply popping on 2m cooldowns is efficient.
- As for your third Breath of Eons use it as you see fit based on Bloodlust / kill times, it is different for every guild.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
Defensive Cooldown Usage
Boss Tips
- Your offensive cooldowns are most of the time reliant on the buff target's timings. But with current kill times simply popping on 2m cooldowns is efficient.
- Make sure you use Prescience once, 1 second before entering the Emptiness Between Stars at the end of Phase 1 and Phase 2.
- Doing this allows you to choose an extra strong 2 minute target for Ebon Might at the start of the next phase.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
Boss Tips
- This boss can be drastically different based on multiple factors, mainly Bloodlust, kill times, and ally cooldown timings.
- Use Zephyr for Brand of Damnation.
- Always have a stack of Hover available for the movement required during Overheated.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
Defensive Cooldown Usage
Boss Tips
- You can immune Mass Entanglement if you are actively flying with Breath of Eons after the cast finishes.
- This boss can be very different based on Raid DPS so you might have to adapt on the fly.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
Boss Tips
- Rescue can play a huge role in this fight if you end up hitting adds with Blaze
- You can use Rescue on the friendly NPC's either to move them out of harm or simply to save the pull by moving them closer to the Heart of Amirdrassil.
Phase 1
- Spatial Paradox allows your (likely) Priest Healer to cast freely during the first Dream Rend.
Phase 2
- You might have a big role in knocking the Phase 2 adds closer to the middle allowing the Death Knight to use Gorefiend's Grasp to stack up all adds.
- If you are assigned to this role, you wait most of the time for the Hunter to knock the farthest add, and then you use Wing Buffet.
Phase 3
- In Phase 3 if you are carrying a Seed of Amirdrassil it is vital to have two charges of Hover before Swirling Firestorm goes out to be able to quickly drop your Seed of Amirdrassil on the ground. Place the Swirling Firestorm outside and pick up your Seed of Amirdrassil before it can get hit by Eternal Firestorm.
Stat Priority
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Augmentation Evoker
Understand your secondary stat priority and the tertiary stats needed for optimal performance during Raid boss fights as an Augmentation Evoker. For more detailed information, visit the Stats and Attributes guide.
Higher Item level items are better in most scenarios. For an accurate representation of what item to equip you should use Simcraft! A static "Stat Priority" is just a starting point and can easily shift depending on your individual gear.
- All secondary stats are affected by diminishing returns. Click here to learn more!
Tertiary
- Avoidance - Great stat to reduce the damage intake of "Area of Effect" abilities.
- Leech - Provides additional healing through damage dealing. Most of your damage comes from buffed players, thus it becomes not optimal.
- Speed - Niche tertiary that can be very useful and has been proven useful in the past. Makes playing certain mechanics a lot easier.

Trinkets
Below you can find active and passive alternatives to the recommended trinkets. Do note that some trinkets are better than others depending on the scenario.
Active Trinket alternatives
- Irideus Fragment
- When used this trinket gives decaying Intellect. This trinket is individually stronger than Nymue's Unraveling Spindle but it does not line up with Breath of Eons.
- Ashes of the Embersoul
- Also gives decaying Intellect. Due to it having Haste as its passive stat, it falls behind Irideus Fragment. This trinket is great for M+ though.
- Iceblood Deathsnare
- Good upfront damage that scales with up to 5 targets.
Passive Trinket alternatives
- Umbrelskul's Fractured Heart
- Intellect passive damage trinket. The DoT deals a large amount of damage even if you cannot get the execute on adds.
- Tome of Unstable Power
- Intellect passive damage trinket. Procs of any spells and deals AOE damage. Great for Mythic+ but still good for ST.
Simcraft
Augmentation Evokers is now technically supported on Raidbots, but they are very early alpha, and you will most likely get weird results. Simming is a vital part of being a WoW player. To find the best combination of gear available to you or identify the best possible upgrades, visit our Simcraft guide to learn how to utilize Simcraft easily and effectively.
- If you end up having issues with the simulations and have questions I might not be able to help, for such issues, you could need to ask in the Evoker Discord.
- DO NOT use Stat Weights Sims, they only affect your personal damage. As such, you won't be given relevant results.
- Use only Top Gear and Droptimizer.
- RDPS or "Raid DPS" is the damage dealt by your entire group. This is done because Augmentation is a Support that buffs other DPS therefore they are required for it to operate. Due to this and a few factors mentioned below, sims do not output the contribution of the Augmentation Evoker individually and can only provide comparisons. Thankfully, comparisons are all you need to optimize gear or talent choices.
Embellishments
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Augmentation Evoker
- 2x Blue Silken Lining
- A good choice if you have over 90% health most of the time and during your cooldowns.
- Can be used on most off pieces such as Belt, Writs, Rings, or Neck.
- Technically BiS for Augmentation, but for swappability with Devastation Adaptive Dracothyst Armguards is recommended.
or
- 1x Blue Silken Lining and Adaptive Dracothyst Armguards
- More consistent and effective in uncoordinated raiding compared to double BSL
Honorable mention
- Complicated Cuffs
- Gives 100% secondary stat value to Mastery
- Tinker: Arclight Vital Correctors Allows you to have a chance to Combat Ress a friend.
Remaining Sparks
- Make sure to apply Alchemical Flavor Pocket if you have an additional crafted item equipped.
- Crafted items are 525 item level and regular items are 528 on max item level, therefore, it's not beneficial to equip crafted items outside of your 2x embellishments unless you don't have access to other high item level gear on that slot.

Log Review
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Augmentation Evoker
- With prepatch, roughly 50-55% of your damage as Augmentation is strictly from your Buffs. Due to that, it is vital to Buff the correct targets. For the easiest time, you look at Details and buff the top 4 players. The next stage is utilizing Warcraftlogs and buffing the top 4 DPS. For the last stage, you manually input your own timings into Warcraftlogs and make decisions upon that.
- This Section is a WIP and will be continuously updated.
